Got a question about:

Avid… FCP… Premiere....?

What do you use?  What have you learned?  What can you share?

As a former user of Media 100, then Avid, I am now settled in and happily using Final Cut Pro.  As I was learning the program, I’d sometimes slip into an Avid or Media 100 techniques (keyboard shortcuts that were etched into my brain) and lo and behold, it would also work with FCP.  Seemed like there is always three different ways of doing everything in FCP.

I know fellow editors who went with Avid Express around the same time others were switching to FCP.  I was told one advantage was that Avid Express could run on both Mac and PC and so you could easily bring a project to a client for viewing.

I don’t know much about Premiere, but I’m certainly a fan of Adobe products.

Let us know what you use and why you like it.  Did you learn by trial and error, by the software manuals, by tutorials...?

I’ve been using Adobe Premiere for some time. Last year I had to use FCP while working at a studio in New York City. And I gotta say, I HATE Final Cut! Actually I’m not a big fan of Apple’s in general. But that’s another thread. I love Premiere and I love the shortcuts and how easy it is to export media. That’s the one thing that I cannot for the life of me figure out, how to export media properly in FCP. It’s way to complicated. With Adobe’s new media Encoder, it’s a breeze!

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
