BRUNSWICK, Maine (December 8, 2009) - Brunswick, Maine-based international film distributor Louise Rosen announces major news for three of her independent producer clients.
The feature documentary “A Small Act” has been selected for competition in the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. Produced by Harambee Media, directed by Jennifer Arnold and produced by Patti Lee, “A Small Act” reveals how a young Kenyan’s life changes dramatically when a Swedish stranger sponsors his education. Years later, he founds his own scholarship program to replicate the kindness he once received. The screenings at Sundance will be the film’s world premiere. This marks the fifth film represented by Rosen that has been selected for Sundance.
Two other clients of Rosen’s have also achieved major acclaim in a season of recently announced awards and award nominations. At last month’s Sheffield Film Festival, Wishbone Films’ “October Country” was nominated for 5 Cinema Eye Honors including Best Nonfiction Feature, Best Debut Feature, Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Musical Score. The finalists will be announced in New York in January. “October Country” was also nominated this week for Best Documentary by the Independent Spirit Awards sponsored by Film Independent, a non-profit organization dedicated to independent film and independent filmmakers. Independent Spirit Award nominations are given to artists who embody diversity, innovation and uniqueness of vision. The Independent Spirit Award winners will be announced in Santa Monica in March.
Furthermore, Rosen’s client Natalia Almada, of Altamura Films, won the Emerging Documentary Filmmaker Award from the International Documentary Association (IDA) for “El General” – the same film for which she earned Best Director at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. The IDA presented Almada’s award during its 2009 IDA Documentary Awards ceremony, the foremost event dedicated to the art of documentary film based in Los Angeles. “El General” has also earned a nomination for the Truer Than Fiction Award by the Independent Spirit Awards.
